We are aware. Today and every day.
We are aware that preemies come in all shapes and sizes
We are aware that no two preemies are the same. Or have the same story. Or face the same challenges.
We are aware that sometimes preemies are born early for a variety of reasons
We are also aware that sometimes preemies are born early for no reason that can be found
Our preemies were all born in the same week, gestationally (35 weeks 2 days, 35 weeks 5 days, 35 weeks 1 day)
Our preemies were all growth restricted and small for their gestational age (3 lbs 14 oz, 4 lbs 3 oz, 3 lbs 15 oz)
We are aware that even having 3 preemies in a row, each time felt brand new because it was
Lil Bird spent 19 days in the NICU
Lil Ninja did not spend any time in the NICU
Lil Koala spent 11 days in the NICU
Some preemies spend months in the NICU
Some will never see the inside of it
Each journey is different. Each child is different.
We have three preemies. I can only share our Prematurity journey. I know many others who have had preemies, micro preemies, and full term kidlets
Some of those babies needed very minimal support after birth
Some needed maximum support
Some face long term challenges
Some have few, if any, noticeable challenges
Modern medicine has come a long way when it comes to preemies. I am constantly amazed at what we can do now!
The one thing that all preemies have in common is this:
Each and every preemie is a miracle
We know how blessed we are.
We are aware of these miracles. And now you are too!
